Need loads of help.....

I'm afraid as yet not an owner of one of these iconic vehicles. This is where I need help and advice.
My initial reason for wanting a Discovery is really just to tow a boat. I think I would prefer a 2.5 diesel as opposed to a larger size engine Not sure on how much weight they can safely pull, this really is my first question?
Second question. I have a limited budget so am looking at something around 95 or 96, this will obviously entail a high mileage vehicle. What should i be look/listing for when choosing?
I have heard a lot about cam belts, are these belts or chains. are the complicated to change.
Obviously having a 4 wheel drive and knowing how to use it are two different things. Any suggestions on best places to be trained?
Sorry guys for sneaking in like this, but thought this is the place where the font of knowledge lay.
Thanks for your time and hopefully will soon be a Landy! (don't know if that is the correct terminology or not)

3.5 tonnes unless its the newer Disco 4 which I think has had its max towing weight lowered to 2 tonne same as FL2

Search what to look out for and then take someone with you who knows what to look for too.

Depends how good you are with a spanner ?

mmmm, think i should have put Landy (bloody predictive text) thats my excuse anyway.

Thanks for the reply, I'll have to ask around as I don't readily know anyone with any knowledge of a Disco.

Thanks for your help

I must go and find my wife's dresses now.

If you are in Feltham you could try Harris Mayes Country Cars in Rickmansworth and Kings Langley Land Rover in (not surprisingly) Kings Langley - both just round the M25 and generally very helpful. A 95 or 96 plate would be quite old for KLLR to sell but not necessarily Harris Mayes - you just have to see what they have in. HM is primarily a service operation and specialises in LR products, selling cars is not where they make their money but they usually have 4 or 5 for sale (not just Discos though). KLLR is bigger and (I think) owned by the same guy who owns Chipperfield Land Rover ( main dealer for SW Herts), so my guess is some of the p/ex`s into Chipperfield get knocked out through KLLR, they also own Thame Land Rover a bit further afield .Might be worth a couple of phone calls ?
