Hi,

Firstly thanks to all the members on here for providing all the information I needed to help me buy my first Range Rover... I now have a 2001 P38 4.6 with a decent history and all round in good condition.

However, it has not had a service for about a year and I would like to get one sorted ASAP, I live in Essex just outside the M25 and would like to know if anyone could reccomend someone close to me? I would prefer to go to a specialist rather than a dealer to save myself a bit of cash.

I would also like to get it on a diagnostics machine to have a look at the ABS light that sometimes comes on, after reading some info on rangerovers.net I think the problem is being caused by the dislodgement of one of the ABS sensors, but without taking each wheel off in turn I won't know which one, so I could get it diagnosed... Do I need to look for a garage with any particular kind of diagnostic tool or can any of them do it?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

hi ,with rgards to the abs light it could be a few things ,firstly id takes off both abs sensors and give them a good clean with electrical contact cleaner sparay or holts spray put them back in and see ,or if not it could be your abs rings which are inside your disks they may have gone rusty or not been put back in when disks have been replaced or lastly check connections on the abs pump unplug connectors and clean and put back on failing that get two new sensors,

as regards to a service i have messaged you .

Thankyou for your prompt reply, and also your PM. I will try out your suggestions and see if they work. I have also noticed the Traction Control light flashes sometimes when the ABS light flashes... I understand the two are linked and use the same sensors? So these are the favourites at the moment.

Regards

Try Gratech Land Rover Specialist
Or if your feeling rich try fortune 4x4 both not far from you, both landy specalists

Hi, i went through all this a short while ago, thought it was a rear wheel sensor so purchased a new one from island 4x4 (not cheap) after lots of messing about had it diagnosed and found out it was the abs ecu, a new one was only 250 quid plus a bit for fitting. not saying that is your problem but be prepared. if you want a perfectly good used rear abs sensor to try i have my one that was ok in the end, you are wellcome to it for 20 quid. good luck.

Thanks, I'll give them a call, you're right not far from me at all!

I think I'll try and get it diagnosed when it goes in for a service, then depending on what it needs and how big the job is I'll probably do the work myself... If it turns out to be a rear sensor I'll probably take you up on your offer. Cheers.
