Thanks for everyones input, i have had a look and it seems all linkages are moving as they should. There doesn't seem to be any hi lo or Neutral. The only time it seems to do anything is if i move it over to diff lock, the light comes on and i can hear the change to lock but still no hi lo or neutral. when i move it from hi to low there is no pressure its like to easy to move between hi low and neutral, any ideas or suggestions ?

You have hi and low, then you have hi and low, with diff lock as well, diff lock is not a seperate gearing setup, so the question is does it work in hi and low with diff engaged?

Your saying that the linkages look OK, and you can get drive on one of the ratios on the diff lock side so I would assume the linkages are OK.

It sounds like you have a blown diff, half shaft...

Say you have a blown diff, the prop will spin but the power doesn't get transfered beyond the diff, so you end up with a prop spinning in mid air doing sod all, which is in transmission terms the same as wheel spin. By engaging diff lock you are forcing power to the front and back axles, so now you get drive on one axle.

Forgot to say, if you want to see if it is a blown diff, then I would get someone to sit in the drivers seat, get them to put it into first (with the transfer box gear stick to the right - in high or low) and get them to bring the clutch up, the landy won't move as its been doing before but one of the props will be spinning away if its a diff/half shaft, have a look under and see.

Also when your engaging hi/low are you giving it a good pull/push into place, these can be quite stiff sometimes and can require what may seem excessive force to get it into gear.

No matter where the lever is high/low/neutral I can do speeds of over 100km/h, So does this mean it may be stuck in high? When I move the high/low lever there is no pressure at all, just slack? Transmission is auto if this makes any difference. Is there any test to see if high/low is working? Should the car move if the high/low lever is in neutral?

  1. put your car in 1
  2. put your little lever all the way back (H)
  3. drive

tell us what happens?

  1. put your car in 1
  2. put your little lever all the way Forward (L)
  3. drive

tell us what happens?

  1. put your car in 1
  2. put your little lever to the middle (N)
  3. drive

tell us what happens?

Ah... I know what's happened.

It's either:
The rod from the small stick to the transfer box has come out of the transfer box end...

Or

There's a selector in the top of the transfer box held on by a grub screw, the grub screw has come loose and now the actuator connecting the selector to the the rod from the small stick is turning in the selector.

Either takes about 10 minutes to fix, half an hour if you really mess about with it ;)

Whereabouts are you danct?

TEZ, i'm in Forster NSW Mid North coast.

RPM at 100KM is just under 3000

Whats the best way to access the top of the transfer case and the linkages, looks tight from under the car should i take the console out and access through there ?

Cheers
