hi im new to the forum just want to know your thought on 300tdi in a d2 body

hi can it be done i love the 300 tdi engine but my d1 body is getting passed it now. has any one done it or seen it done 300 tdi in a disco 2 body thanks people.

I know some farmers that have done it.
Track width is an obvious give away as is the body overhang at the back.

I think hes talking about a body swap. But I also know a farmer that fitted a 200tdi engine to a D2 body/chassis.

There's an article in the May 2012 issue of Landrover Owner International about a guy who put a 300Tdi lump plus gearbox and transfer box into a D2. Ditched the air suspension, abs, traction control and ACE as we'll in an attempt to make an easy to fix overland vehicle

That's a conversion id love to do myself if i had the money/skills required. I love the slightly smoother lines of the TD5 body but i love the simplicity of the 300tdi engine. I remember the article from LRO, wasn't it an imported V8 with a cracked block?

Disco 2 body is longer than a 300. Not sure it the body mounts are in the same places or not. Obviously the rear most ones won't touch a d1 chassis to start with. Wiring for the lights may need to be extended at the back too. Not sure if there is enough slack to reach the extra distance.

Personally I think you'd be better fitting a 300 engine into a d2. Then you get all the benefits of the d2 axle setup too!

There's a lot to consider over just physically fitting the body, like how you'd go about the body electrics like door locks, electric windows, lights, heater etc. It's all different on a d2 as it's controlled by the bcu.

Yeah I'd be looking at getting a cheap td5 with a knackered chassis.

Sell everything apart from the body and axles and fit up the axles to a new galv chassis, drop the d1 engine and transmission onto it and then wire up the d2 as if it were a d1 as best you can.

This will be an enormous task but you will be able to do it with time and patience, even a 300 d1 dash pod will be graftable

Central locking will be awkward but tbh the system is fairly simple and you should be able to make a loom up to operate it, simple pulse system to fire the locks.

An alarm specialist could work it out anyway.

Other stuff like 300 tank unit fitting td5 tank might bite you in the arse but otherwise it would be a belting conversion.

If it was me. Id find a D2 with a knackered engine and just stick the 300tdi in there. Sounds much easier and gives you the looks and better suspension set up of the D2 with the simple engine of the 300tdi.
