I have just traded in my old Td5 for a newish TdCi 2.2 90 Hardtop and would welcome feedback from other owners with experience of such vehicles. So far I think it's fantastic and much nicer to drive and am a bit confused by the apparent prejudice against the Tranny engined Defenders amongst some LR owners. All replies gratefully received!:D

:welcome2:
think you must be a bit verticly challenged if you love it , lot less leg room ,the gear box i think is a pain spend more time changing gear when towing, fuel consumption is worse the the td5, limited to just over 80mph.
plus side bit quieter on the motorway and nice heater
think i'll stick with me td5 (oh and it wont run on chip fat or low grade dizel);)

Thanks for your reply, Mr Buckshot sir and I'm sure you're not as scary as you would have us believe. Anyway, I'm actually over 6 foot and don't find legroom a problem, at least given that it's a Defender. There is a bit less cabin room, but it's more than offset by the improvements in refinement, heater etc. I can't imagine doing 80mph in a Td5 with standard gearing though, my ears used start to bleed at anything over 60. When I check I also see that the 2.2 has a top speed of 90mph and even that is academic for a law abiding citizen like myself;)
Interesting what you say about fuel consumption and towing though. Time will tell how I find things as it's still early days. All the best.
