Hi all,

Been following the forums on here for quite a while and can tell that it is a fantastic site!

As the title of my post suggests, I am a newbie and am not currently a landy owner. I am hopeful that will change soon however as I am looking to buy a good solid, genuine 90/defender with either a 200/300tdi engine. I'm not after a project but something that will get me up and running straight away. I just love the traditional style vehicles. I will post a thread on the wanted section soon.

Keep up the good work. Awesome forum

Cheers Mulcaster,

I may have my work cut out as A. I'm a fussy sod and B. I assume good ones are few and far between as the ones that are out there that are unmolested, are not available as people wouldn't want to give them up!

The search commences......

Welcome to LZ. :)

It isn't that bad, there are a few around, people sell good ones for all kinds of reasons. They move onto something else, have a family, die, or realise that landrovers aren't really that great a daily drive, especially as they get older.
Have a look at Autotrader, the specialist magazines, and local paper, you might be surprised.

Cheers turboman,

Much appreciated. As soon as I get one I will upload some pics

Thats the spirit! :) BTW, I meant that they aren't a great daily drive as the drivers get older, not the landrovers! ;)

An old landy well maintained is great.
Ha ha yes I guessed that was what you meant.

I'm specifically after a 200/300tdi for that very reason with regards to maintenance. I'm hoping to be able to do a lot if it myself. Regularly change fluids etc...

Tdi are good, Td5 are fine if well looked after. 2.5 NA or TD are adequate if you don't want to do a lot of long distance.

Cheers turboman,

It's going to be mainly local stuff with probably a once a month 1hr 40min A/B road trip.

Is there much difference between the 200/300tdi that makes one worth going for more than the other?

Not really, detail differences, different belt set up. 300 water pump is more awkward to change, bit more electronics on a 300, I think.

You could be right. But the main thing is the 2 aren't vastly different. I think I may be wrong about the electronics too, I think it may be emissions stuff on the breathers the 300 has more of.
Thanks both for the info,

In hindsight, it was probably a pointless question on my part as I would be happy with either as long as the vehicle was right.

Looking everywhere online for landy whilst keeping tabs on these forums at the same time. Who said men cannot multitask :)

If you go looking, find someone who knows landies to go with you.

A second set of eyes could stop you making an expensive mistake......

Cheers

Yes that's great advice,

My brother is a landy nut so he will be joining me on any viewings
On another note, how to I post a thread in the wanted section? No privileges currently. Do I get these after a certain time, number of posts etc?
