Hi Everyone
I was looking for some info and bumped into Landyzone! Thanks for a great LR resource!
With a Land Rover history dating back to the 1970s, one would have thought that I would have learnt my lesson by now ... unfortunately there is nothing that beats the ride quality of a coil sprung Landy, especially the D1!
We are blessed with plenty offroad environments within 30 minutes of Cape Town and within a 1000 km you are in Namibia, Botswana and a choice of deserts ... fantastic!!!
OK my chequered Land Rover past:
- learnt to drive courtesy of a 1970's series 3 four cylinder LWB hardtop
- drove a series 3 six cylinder station wagon in the SAAF (South African Airforce)
Ownership:
1) 1983 RRC 4 door 3.5V8 manual (apparently one of the first 4 doors in South Africa) ... the kids grew up in this one!
2) 1995 Disco 1 Tdi 300 S manual (still with us after 260 000 km ... original)
3) 2000 Disco II Td5 XS manual ... 18 month mistake
4) 2008 Disco 3 TDV6 SE Auto (still with us @ 187 000 km)
5) 1984 RRC 2 Door 3.5V8 4-speed (Restoration project, garaged at the moment)
6) 1996 Disco 1 3.9 V8i ES Auto (fixer-upper, nearly running ...)
And to prove that I was never biased, in between and amongst the Land Rovers, there was a VW T4 Syncro, a Toyota Hilux D-4D DC and a Nissan Patrol 4.8.
