Hi folks,

I’ve been reading the forum on and off for a while, so thought it’s about time I joined in.

I bought a new Freelander 1.8 in 2004 and it has just passed its latest MOT and has covered just shy of 58,000 miles. All things considered, I’ve enjoyed ownership over the last 10 years either that or I must have a slight masochistic kink.

It had an obligatory major HGF about 5 years ago which was fixed by the local garage. About 14months later a water slight leak ‘evolved’ on the left side of the engine at the head joint. Regular water top ups and constant monitoring for 6 months or so, over which time it didn’t get any worse. After the 6 months I was getting fed up so decided to replace the HG with an MLS gasket myself. After much swearing a slightly slipped timing belt (no damage) and an uncooperative engine mounting bolt after a couple of days it was done. A strangely enjoyable job, there’s the Masochistic thing again! All was fine for a while until the coolant level started to drop again, cannot track the leak but it must be there somewhere. I suspect the inlet gasket which I will be changing this weekend.

Both rear window regulators failed in Wales a few years ago, these were replaced by my friendly garage.

I’m just about to replace all the tyres as the originals are getting close to the legal limit.

I replaced the front pads about 15k ago. I checked the original rear shoes just before the MOT and they are still good. Back box replaced.

Bonnet release catch replaced under warranty quite common I understand.

I do like my car it’s my daily car and I don’t think I’ll ever sell it, fuel consumption is poor but I can live with that. It certainly doesn’t owe me much and it allows me to indulge my other automotive cravings.

I have a list of 15 ( and growing) jobs which I will be carrying out over the next few months so if I get confused, which is a worryingly more frequent occurrence these days, I’ll be seeking advice.http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/images/smilies/confused.gif

I live in the Great Barr/Sutton coldfield area of Brum.

Best regards to all

David
