Hi everyone.

I'm new to this site and new to being a Land Rover owner. I just bought a 2003 Freelander 1 2.5 V6 auto and it's lovely. There are a few things I'd like to ask you guys because I don't know if they are normal / common problems or not..

First of all I thought I needed a replacement wheel bearing but it turns out the prop shaft bearing needs replacing so I will get on to that asap.

After reading through some posts on this website, I see the expansion cap leaking is a common problem. It looks like mine is doing the same as it's losing fluid (about 2 tablespoons worth per day). I can see the residue on the bottle where it has leaked. I will buy a new click-type cap and hopefully that'll do the trick. If not I will also replace the expansion bottle. I hope it's nothing more sinister! Gulp!

Main question - Are the Freelander 2.5 V6 petrol models supposed to run very hot? After only a few miles of normal driving, the fan kicks in and it sounds like a jet is about to take off! It's very noisy! Even when I turn the engine off it stays on of about 2-3 mins to cool the engine. Is this normal?? My temp gauge in the car stays bang in the middle by the way.

Also, when I first start the engine from cold it sounds like there are stones rattling about in the engine! when it gets warm the rattling dies down. But then the fan kicks in like I said above...

Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks,

Andy.
