Hi everybody

Hi everybody, I'm a complete novice as far as 4x4's are concerned and I have a problem that I hope someone may be able to help me with. I have a 99 Discovery II GS TD5 and today when I arrived home at midday the air suspension compressor kept going after switching off the ignition and removing the key. The battery has now run flat. Is the compressor faulty or are the airbags leaking or is there another possible reason for the problem and is there a short term workround until I can get the problem fixed permanently.

Yes I had done a search and already looked at the definitive guide but it doesn't mention a continuously running compressor (or at least I haven't been able to find the reference anywhere). So, sorry to waste your time mate, will hope someone else will take the time to reply to my post.

I've just had a read of the link again and you're right it doesn't specifically state 'compressor continually running with ignition off' .. but it does point out other/most potential problems and I expected you to think a little about it.

If you're going to actually do anything about you might need to think a little more laterally than just being spoon-fed, 'specially as it sounds an 'odd' thing to happen. I don't know the D2 at all, mine's a 300 Tdi, but I'd start with the following ..

As it's an electrical item and is still running with the ignition off .....

Using the D2 Definitive guide, I'd find the compressor and check all wiring connections to it for continuity. I'd probably have already checked fuses ... there must be an electrical fault of some sort like a short or (less likely) an earth fault. Look for chafed wires, tight/clean connections everywhere, indeed break and re-make the connections after cleaning them.

I'd probably connect a charged battery and see if the compressor still runs with ignition off ... if it does disconnect the battery again ..

I would also definitely be checking the ignition switch and associated wiring.
