First off Hello to everyone. :)

My Freeland drives great its a 1999 td, tyres are all good road tyres on standard 16" rims , car is stock, but when i reach 30mph i get a whine from the front, nothing to bad ,

30mph whine starts

40mph whine is alot less

changing gear makes no differance to noise tone or level

on road or grass same noise,

power down or power off makes no difference.

clutch in or out no difference,

in or out of gear no difference

enegin on or off same noise (only tried this once to get the result)

im thinking may be a wheel bearing , but would like some advise if possible, if it was the diff i thing it would change tone , this is a constant one tone whine, and does not seam like its at you feet or in the tunnel, its been like it since i brought the car 3 months ago and has got no worse, any advice please

Mick

could be a worn bearing, but its worth checking oil level (or changing it) in the IRD.
My freelander makes alot of noises now its nearly 10 years old.

Hi thanks for the reply, do you know the type of oil and the amount i will need,
Cheers Mick

just check the level first to be safe. If you do change the oil in the IRD it may not solve the whining noise but it will definately run quieter.

IRD oil is 75w/90 to spec API GL5.
You'll need 1.1 litres which is typical because you buy it 1 litre bottles.
