I have a bearing noise at rear of freelander 1 but its not the wheel bearing. Any ideas. Also the visteon stereo has been changed and i need the code as i had to re calibrate the tailgate.

The code for the factory stereo should be in your owners handbook. If you can't find it I believe you can contact a LR dealer give them the VIN number and license plate and they should have it on file somewhere.

If you have an aftermarket stereo, then you're perhaps out of luck (the pin code is required to activate on some head units to deter theft). I can't give a precise answer to be honest.

Thanks for that but the stereo has been replaced at some stage and i am wondering if anybody can resolve the code from the serial number

there's a few companies it's online that I belive can give u codes , better to maybe contact the manufacturer

ref the rear noise

may be the brakes. rear diff etc

if the brakes are ok, maybe remove the prop and see if the noise is still there

have u had new tyres fitted on the rears

Only recently purchased it. Will try swapping tyres fiirst then. Is the diff a common issue

Dear new member,
Do the one wheel up test. plenty of info.
Once you have a time for your VCU that will rule in or out the first main issue with freelanders.
We can help from there.

If the VCU has failed will disconnecting the prop and using it as 2wd solve the issue

VCU's can become stiff as mine did, the diff is now noisy. I have removed the prop and VCU. Going to get a second hand diff soon and replace the prop. The diff is still noisy with prop removed but not being put under any strain so should last ages like it.

14 bolts and 30 minutes max.
Torx head bolts though, had to go buy some new sockets to get them off.

Some people say you can get away with sockets but as a professional engineer I cannot reccomend that.

I used a 1/4" socket set to remove and refit 3 or 4 propshafts. No problem but not sure I did it in 30 minutes.

ET8 for the 6 front bolts.
ET12 for the rear 4 bolts.
You'll also need a 17mm spanner for the bolts holding the prop to the VCU.
A 10mm socket to remove the VCU mounts from the cross members supporting it.
I'd say, give yourself a good hour to complete the Job
