Hey, I'm new  (don't hate)

Been browsing these forums for a few weeks now - I don't actually own a landy, but i want one - soon.

Little bit about me

I studied light vehicle maintenance for a year at college, had a great time and learned a few things, but no where near as much as i learn by being thrown into the deep end as a mechanic in the local landy specialist.

I worked there for a year servicing and repairing whatever came in, even got to drive some pretty nice cars, 1970's Rolls Royce, custom built V8 defenders, normal unexciting cars and even an elderly chaps Nissan Sunny with the largest exhaust you had ever seen... really didn't suit his driving style to say the least!

I drove a 1982 mini clubman estate for 2 years after passing my test. It was pretty much a shed on wheels, everyone took the ****, but it could shift pretty quickly for a 1.3 with a stage 1 on it. Unfortunately, i rolled this on the way back from a mini track day - I think i was driving too enthusiastically round a corner and something wasn't happy about. rolled a couple of times into a field - luckily, never landed on the roof and the only injury i had was from the can of WD40 that hit me in the chest! safe to say that was the end of that, towed home and was then sold a little bit later for £400, not bad considering it was only worth about 1000 before it was wrecked.

Been driving my dads 1998 Rover mini cooper since then, it's not the same, it's too reliable and not as much fun!

After a year of working in a garage, i had decided that it was more of a hobby then a job and decided to make the jump from mechanic to IT, covered a general view on all software, hardware and networking while at college and have since left to go to university studying Digital Art and Technology. - Basically using computers and code to make creative arty stuff (it's a lot of fun!) Starting to creating my own programs from scratch and making the computer do what i want, not what other people had wanted it to do!

Currently looking into creating my own ICE system using a raspberry pi and 7" touch screen - hoping to implement GPS and a satnav into this too! - a pretty cool project :)

So, that's pretty much me, look forward to learning more about landys and helping others if i can :p

Sadly, no welder :(

But i can weld (kinda) and have access to the one where i used to work for a few beer tokens :p

yeahh I know that :p

but, it's probably slightly better than the old mini i used to have! had to weld a different bit every year!

I'm not knocking it, it was a great car! always got me home - with a little bit of tinkering if anything did go wrong - it did like to eat wheel bearings though!

Out of all my friends (we were all 17 and new to driving), I think i had the most fun in it than the corsa and alike! and it was actually quicker thanks to the replacement 1.3 engine with a stage 1, probably producing a massive 40-50bhp? i think the power-weight ration was great because bits kept falling off ;)
