I'm hoping I'm not in over my head: I've recently acquired a '79 Series III RHD diesel that was in mid-restoration. The previous owner was administering as much TLC as budget would allow when his wife pulled the plug. I've no regrets, but I have come to realize that I will most likely need to maintain regular communication with you folks so many time zones away: She's a model that was never imported to the States for retail sale and is a diesel to boot. She's a runner with gremlins and I sense we are in for a love/hate relationship: Probably a good thing there is no Mrs. or even a candidate for that title. Already trying to figure out how the heck the glow-plugs are supposed to be charged as the starter switch does not seem to have a position for them. Additionally, wondering if I will be able to get a new hazard switch/knob that doesn't show on anybody's wiring diagrams, but appears to be part numbers 90575281 on an Egdon (Spetchley, Worcester) parts supply list. Fun fun!

Hi and welcome...maybe it started life as a petrol engined model and hence doesnt have the position on the starter for the diesel..or you are going past it, try very slowly turning the key and see if you can find the 'pre-warm' position.

Have you had a landy before? If not, congrats, you are blissfully unaware of what lies ahead....

As for parts, in my opinion (others will disagree or agree) I find that Paddocks are good for us folks living abroad as their postal charges are very reasonable.

Hi :welcome2: to the asylum!
As Storm says all those suppliers are quite reputable & dependable, but beware when ordering from Paddocks that they don't send you the cheap n nasty Britpart stuff thye sell, pay the little bit extra and get the quality parts!!! Land Rover parts shop.com are excellent; I'd recommend them!!
It will be a love/hate thing, but mostly love!! ;)

Storm, this is my third - I had a petrol S3 in Rwanda in '98-'99 and an '84 diesel 110 that I picked up in Bosnia in '96 and eventually sold in Madrid in late '99 with a failed rear u-joint after touring a good part of England and mainland Europe.

Oki Doki...so you join the ''why do i never learn'' club!!

I'm a bit puzzled about the pre-warm though..have you had her up and running yet? Any pics would be appreciated..ive had about 20 myself, 4 or 5 for my own use and abuse, the rest i imported to order and sold on...many a stressful mile driven from the uk to denmark in anything from a 1958 with no doortops in december (!!!) to a lovely defender...that decided to crack a diesel pipe in Norway...ah..good times!
