Hey, thanks for your help in the past with my TD4 Freelander....ive since sold and brought a defender 90 and a ford focus in exchange for the Freebie.....im pleased - so far )

The thing is my best bud is on the lookout for an old freelander to play around in, he is looking at an X-Reg 3 Door freelander 2L Diesel sunday and im going with him.

Apart from the viscous coupling check, water in rear cargo well and oil in water/white scum in oil....what else should we look for?

Thanks, a list from you chaps would be great..

Kind regards

I'd bring a big folded cardboard box or something, you dont know what kind of surface your going to have to lie on to get a good look underneath.

It might be a bit cheekey to ask the seller to remove the undertray b4 you get there,or better still if your really interested take off the undertray before you agree aprice.Check for signs of leaks on the tray and by looking up,rattle the drive shafts.Check the ird filler nut fo damage. It would be nice if the coolant was green, mines a chocolate colour, seems ok (will change it soon).
I dont know what a dodgey diff mount would feel like but give that a shake.I would ask to do a tipex test(I'd much prefer to use duct tape or insulating tape around the prop and joined hanging down a bit,if I was going to the bother) b4 I took it for a test drive, and make sure you get in some full lock turns.Check the alloys aren't flaking round the edges....thats just given me the idea I'd like to paint my wheels gun metal grey.

kind regard back,
Joe.
