HEVAC LCD Intermittent

Hi all,

My HEVAC LCD screen was blank this morning, as it was yesterday evening...however the illumination started to gradullay come back on my journey last night. I'm thinking it has something to do with the cold weather would I be right? I question myself because when I press the 'Prog' button the display is okay but press it again and it all goes really faint again.

I thought it said when I chose the prefix my bad. Its a P38 range rover SE 97

OK Hevac is back lit by bulbs it is not normal for them to go off and on. Either they work or they don't. Have you got condensation in the car? If you have that can effect the electrics on the Hevac unit. It may just be a case of removing it and working the plugs in and out a few times to remake connections.

I thought condensation but its not obvious anywhere in the car. Its just strange that the prog mode displays properly yet normal mode doesnt

Bad solder joint on the PCB inside the unit maybe.

Update: Very strange, you cant make the display out if set at 26c on drivers side yet when set at 27c or HI it becomes much more clearer yet not as clear as when the prog button is pressed.

Take the unit out. there is a bulb holder on the back. have a fiddle with it or change bulb.

But surely the prog setting uses the same bulb?

The program bulb maybe spilling light into the LCD display, odds on the back light bulb is blown.

Ok guys i'll pull the unit out and have a look at the back, ill try and find a guide on here to do it

It has to be cold related...the display was perfect and bright last night and this morning you could hardly see it again
