Nice vid. Got up early to sort brakes-saw the frost and gave up. After watching vid now need to get snorkel AND door rubbers.
Snorkel yes, door rubbers don't bother, you won't keep the water out of a Series, better to let it fill up and drain afterwards, stops it floating and losing traction.
 
Before going to general population with this, is there anyone on hear who owns a D2 that can tell me any comon problems to look for? I know about the chassis, the 3 ameagos, the air suspension and the hyd stabilisation system. It's a TD5 on 129k manual, full service history 2 owners face lift. Cheers
 
Should there be a noticeable difference when driving in 4wd (in a series)

I have only done so a few times, but the handling /steering is truly shocking. This is only at low speeds and feels like I am driving with a couple of flat tyres- the car veers of randomly/ feels unsafe. I know both front half shafts are ok but was wandering if it is possible that the diff could be buggered and is only providing drive to one side- which could explain the vague steering ? (steering is fine in 2wd and I don't know bugger all about diffs)

Yes if driving on a hard surface (which should be avoided in 4x4) you will notice that there is juddr when you turn, this is due to the UJs in the front hubs unlike CVs in the permanent 4x4s.

In a straight line I cant see why it would veere, does it do this under power/braking/coasting?

Does it veere much in 4x2? as wickford said are the swivel pins and railco bushes OK, wheel bearings loose?

In a series 4x4 should olny be used when required due to the inevitable transmission windup needing to be released by slippage of a wheel on the loose/soft ground.
 
As for the diff, try jacking one front wheel off the ground at a time, and trying to turn it while 4x4 is engaged and the handbrake on and 1st gear engaged.

You will find that there is around an 1/8 of a rotation play, but then you should not be able to turn the wheel beyond.

Do you have freewheeling hubs? (scourge of the devil) and if so are they engaging correctly?

Long time no See

Certainly is mate, how you keeping? Hope you had a good Christmas and NY etc.

Anything planned in the future? I'm looking to get a few lanning trips organised this year if you fancy it. Thinking Yorkshire, Wales, down south somewhere Yeovil are as appose to Salisbury. All either long weekends or weekend trips.

Just be nice to see a little more of the country's lanes.

Hi mate,

We went out last night in the end. One guy got washed away in a ford (frontera), me and the other 90 very dirty :). I drive through hitchin every day, surprised I haven't seen you about.
