Demonbiker how's the motor?

new engine in and running after a few probs, replaced radiator too as it was full of clay!

got a starting issue still, runs a bit rough at startup but ok when warm, thinking it might be overtight valve clearances?

changed the oil today after doing about 500 miles on cheap oil, put some decent stuff in, fixed the pressure gauge- ready to roll!!

:)

is clay bad for radiators? im glad you got it running again.

so chaps, i am going to attempt to get stuarts disco running tomorrow after last weekends pond incident. i have checked the air filter and its bone dry, so im fairly sure it didnt drink anything. fuel might have water in it though. i have a new filter, but given that stu is scottish and there is a full tank of diesel has anyone got any suggestions of where to start? thanks chaps

Diesel floats on water so if you drain the tank from the bottom then the water will come out first, start from the tank and work forward, take the inlet off the inj pump and crank the engine, should pump the crap out of the system, change the filter re connect everything then crack the inj pipes at the block, crank again and should clear the inj pump and pipes, tighten everything up and cross your fingers. Might splutter and will prob be clouds of white smoke billowing out of the back but should clear in time.

Have fun

thanks stu, it should be a learning curve. hopefully it's not terminal. it didnt sound too good when they tried bump starting it haha

Diesel engine do sound rough when running on water. I got a electric pump for fuel if you struggling bleeding it, worked a treat on a 300tdi I replaced the fuel lines on.

Well, I am covered in diesel but I have discovered that the sedimenter was hiding something that looked like rancid vegetable soup. Mmmmm

only way to check is to strip the front down. but i cant think of any other way of oil getting in to the cover

There's a chance it's rough water as there were no wading plugs in. But it's weird that it only comes out when the engine is running. Makes me think it's a gasket or oil seal of some description.
