I have just bought a S3 109 with, what I thought, was a 3 bearing 7:1 petrol engine. The engine, of course, needs a new head gasket.
I have just looked for the engine serial number and on the head all I found was HRC 1305. There doesn't appear to be the normal vertical metal space for serial number. A quick search of the block for numbers revealed nothing and I don't yet have the V5, which might be wrong anyway!
So what I have a bought, a 7:1 or a 8:1 2.25...or is it a 2.5 ? And what head gasket kit should I get?
Many thanks in advance.

Look at the Glencore site, which I posted a link to the other day in your other thread.
Not only does it list the engine numbers, it also tells you how to find them.
If your picture was taken a bit further up, and a bit to the left, the engine number would actually be visible in the pic.

From the very little that is visible in your pic, it looks like a 2286cc 4 cylinder petrol.
When you know exactly what engine you have, order a Payen or Elring composite gasket.

They sure don’t put an engine number on the head.
Block number a bit further forward stamped on a machined face pointing up at you.

Did some of the engines destined for military use have the block number omitted. I’ve never had an army heap but I’m sure it’s come up before. ???
