I reckon you need to find a local auto trans place and have a word.

Thanks for that I think you are right I just wish I could look up the code figure what is wrong and buy the part and fit it lol

I searched for the code and it reads to me like a possible internal gbox fault?
I think gbox places have software that can read deeper into the box than the dealers can.

All I get from my reader is that it is something to do with the upshift circuit but can find no pics or diagrams of that module

Is the linkage on the side of the gbox free? ie does it slip nicely into gears or is the knob stiff to move?
Quiet common for the linkage pivot to seize solid, you can gte kits to repair, but a good/clean/grease is often all thats needed

I cannot stress enough do not go under this car without an axle stand. I am pretty anti h+s but having nearly been caught under my D3 am now super careful.

Your code reader will not go as far into the gbox as a gbox places code reader will, ie theirs will be a specific ZF diag kit.

Will the gap 11d tool go deep enough ?

TBH I do not think it will.

Update
If I park the car in neutral the fault doesn’t reoccur but of course I forget lol

Gearbox fault cured it was a module just under the cup holders. The previous owner had kids who basically split as muck lemonade and coke down there as possible, it ruined the connections and screwed the module
Hope this helps someone in the future
