TD5, D2s are well different. Maybe you have an Anniversary model? Ours is one, but nothing to do with engine or gearbox.

I'm intrigued, in what way do td5's and D2's differ. I have a 50th anniversary disco and it's a 300tdi D1

Thanks Marmaduke for pointing this out. You will notice that Tbag herself addressed us all as "guys" and the term "guy" is nowadays used for both males and females, so I apologise to you Tbag for not mentioning your gender in addressing you. I am ashamed to say that I never click on a members name to see what gender they are. And this is a minefield nowadays anyway, what with LGBT and everything, Please consider my wrist well and truly slapped.

No worries, if you look at the box where an avatar would be it usually gives you an idea.

Makes no difference to me pet, do you have any lights coming on the dash when you try and start it? Or any other noises?
Not now got a flat battery it will turn when arc the starter motor but that's it wondered if it was inhibitor switch

When my immobiliser decided it didn't want to turn off there was a red key symbol on the dash. Have you got a remote alarm key fob that works the central locking?
Also what you have there is a Discovery 1 not a 2 or a td5 and from memory not many parts are cross compatible

I assume you use as most people do a smartphone, put the key in the ignition and turn it to start position (doesn't matter if the battery is flat the dash lights should still come on unless it's completely dead) and take a picture. Then upload the picture using the green 'upload a file' button in the reply box at the bottom of wherey ou type. So we can see what lights up. Have you got a two button remote or not I haven't with mine

!/ Wow, never realised about the gender avatar for people who could not be £$%ed to put up a picture. So that's why my avatar is a question mark! Just thought it meant, "This person never put much up about him/herself". Perhaps I should put more up.
2/ Wow again, we both own a 1998 R reg Disco Anniversary model 300tdi. Flipflop bluey-greeny colour, buff leather, no sunroofs but aircon, which to me is exactly right. Disc player under the driver's seat and subwoofer in the back door. Only difference I can see is that ours has sidesteps and mudflaps, or did till I took the offside off to do the welding of the sills that I have yet to do!

D2s can be td5s or V8s, but I'm sure you know this, how did we get on to this. All I maeant was that D2s AND td5s are different to D1s and 300tdis. I really seem to be having problems making myself understood at the moment.

I actually have an S reg 50th but mine has a 2" lift, 265 tyres and a snorkel fitted by the previous owner and a double din sat nav /dvd player fitted by me. I only bought it for the transfer box when I had a defender but it was that nice I sold the defender and kept it :D

It sits a bit higher than the average disco

I'm 99% sure D1's don't have a check engine light as they have very few sensors or diagnostics. Really need some photos ... Have you got a set of jump leads? I would also clean the battery terminals and the earth strap coming off the starter motor.

Marmaduke, funnily enough ours sits 2" higher as well as I had heavy duty springs fitted at the rear and the rears put on the front as I knew I was going to be having a huge amount of towing long distance to do. (All the stuff to fit out our new house in SW France, towed in a massive trailer) No snorkel though. But Gaz shockers which stop the roll and a performance exhaust which kills the turbo lag. Are yours all D1s? We have 1 D2 and 2 D1s. Three seems to be a key number, after that Wifey's get a bit bothered though it looks as if you have tons more room to keep them in than we do! (Front of house, won't fit in garage!) Nice Satnav thingy by the way!

Tbag, re the parts problems, an auto D1 has an EDC and thus is a tiny bit like a D2, which has ECU, BCU, SLABS and other electronics all over the place. So be sure to tell the supplier the vehicle is Auto. At least you CAN get a diagnostics to tell you what the problem is, maybe.
Re it not starting, D1s have a "spider" which is notorious for causing problems, check this out https://forums.lr4x4.com/topic/86-the-definitive-alarm-spider-post/ it may help. But Sierrafery is on board and he is hugely knowledgeable. Best of luck.
