Hi guys iam new to all this just wondered if someone could help got an r reg disco automatic one day just stopped working put on new starter motor still wont start or turn over if you arc the starter motor it turns over but wont draw any fuel we by passed the fuel inhibitor it still turned but wouldn't start bought a new in tank fuel pump still wont start any suggestions please
 
"In tank fuel pump", is this a V8 then? (My R reg D1 300tdi has a fuel pump on the side of the engine) But mine is not automatic.
 
My stupid, just reread first post, if its auto then it is EDC and will have an in-tank pump. (Don't think TD5s came in until 2000).
So it will have a ECU, so you could use a diagnostic to try and find what is up. Would deffo suggest getting a friend or a 4x4 specialist with the right piece of kit to diagnose what they can. Better to spend money on that than on replacing parts you are not sure you need. You could always rig up a gravity tank to test everything up to the engine, on the fuel side. but the ECU might well shut everything down if it sees a fueling fault, I suppose. (Try to keep away from ECUs!)
 
Hi I don't know much about these its r reg disco 2.5 tdi but some parts it has are for a disco 1 and some parts are disco 2 ???
TD5, D2s are well different. Maybe you have an Anniversary model? Ours is one, but nothing to do with engine or gearbox.

Would be interesting to see what D2 parts it has though!

Have a look in regional landyzoners, try posting a thread there to see if there's anyone by you with diagnostics who'll help you out. Usual price is cake, tea, beer or all 3 ;)

Thank you trying to find someone with a computer to check it but not easiest of task and I can't get it any where

Ok thank you I could cope with all 3 if that's all it was

Meant to say "I try to keep away from ECUs". Obviously if you have a problem and your car has one, you have no choice but to deal with it sometimes!

I don't no anything much about cars the disco was my late father's and was working one day then just stopped and now sitting on my drive but would be good to get it going

It would be real helpful if you tell what year model it is, (manufacture date on the compliance plate in the engine bay), chassis number, diesel or petrol, simple stuff like that, all this information will enable pinpointing of the model and of the problem you may have.

I've seen an S and T reg td5 but never an R reg, this above is a late 300tdi. Do you have any lights coming on the dash? I take it you've checked the little spade connector is in place on the starter motor?

It's all relative, I've changed shocks, springs, wheel hubs and bearings, drop links, discs, brakes, water pumps, crankshaft pulley, rads, intercooler, starter motors, door locks, etc, etc, etc... many of those jobs quite technical and labour intensive but I would not say I know enough about cars to call myself an expert in any form. You just learn as you go.

Hi everyone, no insult to Tbag intended.
Nobody can be an an expert in all things automotive, and I wasn't saying, or even implying that. Like Bobdog I have been playing with cars and maintaining them for 46 years, most of the time because I didn't have the money to be able to pay a garage and later on because I preferred to know the job had been done properly and cheaply, but I always tried to ensure I gave jobs I couldn't do to an expert. Along the way, I learnt that so-called experts sometimes took my money and did nothing or nearly nothing. Which is why I always come on here first when I cannot easily solve a problem on one of my Discoveries.
During my time, I started and ran the Wessex Kit Car Club, which caters for all sorts of types of vehicle, including four wheel drives, and it is partly through that that I became interested in Land Rovers and their peculiarities. So, despite having built cars from the ground up, restored others, tuned others, mated various engines to various gearboxes and back axles, to say nothing of huge amounts of bodywork, glass fibre work, trim, modifications to things to make them work modern while looking old, (e.g. converting a pair of P80 headlights from the 30s to hold sealed beam H4 units), I still would not call myself an expert. And anyone who reads my posts will know that I am still on a huge learning curve with Discoveries, particulalry when it comes to ECUs etc. If it was not for the likes of James Martin, Sierrafery and many others, I would be stuck with paying for (sometimes dodgy) advice.
So all power to your elbow Tbag, keep on trucking, we will all, I am sure, try to help you out.

Thanks Marmaduke for pointing this out. You will notice that Tbag herself addressed us all as "guys" and the term "guy" is nowadays used for both males and females, so I apologise to you Tbag for not mentioning your gender in addressing you. I am ashamed to say that I never click on a members name to see what gender they are. And this is a minefield nowadays anyway, what with LGBT and everything, Please consider my wrist well and truly slapped.
