Help with three amigos !!

Hi all,
could use a little help and advice,,I have an 02 discovery TD5 2.5 manual.
i have a problem with electrics ( i think ) the three amigos comes on " sometimes "then when i turn the car off and back on they go off and i might not see them again for a week or more.
but if i dont use the car for a couple of days they might come back on .
i did have a leak at the top of the drivers side A pillar that dripped onto the fuse box
so i changed it hoping it would cure the problem but i find today i still have it.
is there any one out in Landy zone that might be able to shed a little light on this.??

Yes I have had this and it's a common problem, within the ABS system there are two switches on a plastic mount under the ABS unit, the switches are usually OK, but the connections to these switches fails, the fix is to take wires from each side of the switches connect one to the ground (thus cutting out the faulty connection on the earth side) and the other to the wire as it enters the terminal block on the ABS (thus cutting out the faulty connection on the switching side) - The switches still remain in circuit operating as they should but the faulty connections are bypassed.

I have done this on my Defender, and it is much harder than on a disco where the access is far better.

Prior to this it would be OK, then not, then other strange things, then just one light then all three - all over the place, since applying the above fix - sorted with no issues.

You can do it in situ without touching the actual brake pipe system, it's purely an electrical fix

I don't know if external links are allowed but http://www.handyhowie.co.uk/handyhowie/Disco_ABS_Fault.html has a good description specifically for the disco - I couldn't actually find anything for my defender other than comments along the lines of do the same thing, it's just a bit more awkward - technically yes - but it's very difficult! on a defender you access the whole thing through the side air intake!

You need to read the fault codes in the SLABS ecu with Hawkeye or Nanocom or similar. Shuttle valve is common and a fix you should do anyway.
Older SLABS ecus like to throw ABS faults due to worn or dodgy hubs. ABS looms also let in water or give faults if cheap replacements.
Read the codes if shuttle valve mod doesn’t work. I put a new shuttle valve in at same time just to make sure. Test it first with a multimeter.
