Help

I'm really struggling with my 2010 3.0 Range Rover HSE.

I have had the car for three years. It's only done 51,000 miles. It's got a full service history and I have never abused it!

Before Christmas the car very occasionally started to go into restricted performance mode. When restarted the fault seemed to go away. I took it to my local Landrover independent who have a good reputation. They said it was an air-flow meter issue and changed the part.

Two days later the battery went on the car, I put this down to coincidence and changed the battery. Next day the restricted performance light came back, plus a vehicle stability type warning. The fuel indicator also constantly showed empty.

I had the car recovered to the same independent. They changed the fuel sensors in the tank. They also changed the active roll bar. This cost about £1500.

The next day I drove the car to work. In the outside lane of the motorway the car lost all power and gave a Engine Systems Fault. It went into limp mode and would not do over 1000 rmp. Luckily I was near the slip road and limped off the motorway. I stopped the car and after 5 mins re-started. No warning lights and the engine was fine. I drove the remaining mile to the office and had the car recovered (again) to the independent. I tried to drive it onto the transporter, but after standing for a few hours it would not start. The starter motor just runs to no effect.

The Landrover independent have had the car for 3 weeks. They can't get it to run, claim it's getting no error messages, they have never seen anything like it.

They initially said it was electrical, they seem to have discounted that after calling in an electrical engineer. They then blamed the exhaust, then the turbo. They have now discounted all of these! They are beginging to talk about it now being mechanical.

I'm beginning to lose faith in the garage. I know it's a long shot, but has anyone ever seen anything similar?

Im really struggling as it's the families main car.

i was going to suggest that maybe he trade it in for a proper range rover.. a P38...
.. but figured it was too early for that
I dont have a problem with the sport i think that might be my next car either here in Australia or in the UK where my P 38 is kept

Hi all

Thanks for the comments. I did have a 90, wish I had kept it now

Still no joy, they can't even start it!

It has come to life enough to give a new error code message indicating an electrical fault. The garage are working through the various suggested fixes, loose ecu connecting wires, battery connection issues etc. They are still pretty stumped. They have worked on it for 35 hours so far!

wow. sorry t o hear no progress. is a similar vehicle accessible to swap out ECUs to see if there a fault with one of those ?

If it keeps coming up with different error messages, it's sound's like a spurious electrical drop. I would be checking the alternator output and connections...

a worn alternator can mess with electric's some thing wicked, there are tests you can do on the alternator with a test meter without the car running. YouTube? Hope you find the bug! Good luck.

I have had a few spurious elelctrical faults on a RR Sport.......they were caused by water getting to the wiring loom which runs alongside the sill panels between the seats and the doors ( along the car lengthwise) , the water actually rotted several joins in the loom , cutting the loom back and splicing/soldering new wires in cured it . Does your Sport have a sunroof ?
Lift the carpet on the pasenger side front , although dry on top I bet its soaking wet underneath, the loom actually sits in a channel that fills with water

Hahaha my 986 is pretty low cost..

You know the 996 throttle body (72mm) fits on the 986 (68mm) and the DME doesn't need calibration.

Gives a good performance boost to the 986

Yep.......and I'm on the case .....also fitting the 987 airbox livens up the engine too

Thanks for that, I will ask them to check it out. The car is still off the road after 6 weeks.

The rear camera had also stopped working so this could be linked?

They are currently opening it up to look at the injectors as they have discounted the electrical fault.
