Hello all,

There’s a leak on the top cover so I need to replace the gasket. I assume it’s a fairy but I’m not certain as I think there are a couple of options.

Ah I wasn’t aware it’s supposed to have a dip stick for the overdrive. I’ve only had it just over a week so still learning what’s what with it.

I’ll have to find some strip down images.

Thanks

You could make your own gasket for that. A smear of hylomar and all should be good.

If you are going to be making your own gaskets (my recommendation as well, not disagreeing with you) at least do it properly with some gasket paper and an engineers hammer. Instant gasket is for the bodger!! (or when you are out of gasket paper and the cornflake box hasn't quite done the job properly )

My dipstick on the overdrive is on the bottom of the fill bolt so you only see it when you remove the fill bolt. Having said that my fill bolt is on the top side and I cant see one of those on yours either. doe sit have a side fill plug? If so it wouldn't need a dipstick as that would also be the level similar to the diffs or gearboxes.

I have a Fairey overdriver which I believe is standard. The dipstick is on the top of the unit. I guess this means your is not a Fairey? When you say there is a leak on the top cover, how serious is it? Seapage of oil from the unit after a long drive when the oil is hot and thin, may not be an issue requiring immediate attention, as long as you check the oil level frequently. If that's your only leak from the gearboxes, you are doing well!

Thanks for the reassurance. The oil leak is only minor but there are a few places including engine, gearbox and transfer box that have a small leak. So lots to keep me busy.
I’ve only owned it for a few weeks so trying to sort the issues out bit by bit. I’ll be doing full fluid change anyway as there’s no history of when they were last done.
