Help required please ASAP

Hi everyone

I've got one or two things that I need help on with my range rover 4.6 p38.

The first thing may sound silly, but I know very little about engines!
The thing is I want to drain and flush out my cooling system so I can refill it with the correct amount of antifreeze and water after replacing a split hose.

If anyone could give me a step by step guide on how to do this i'd be very grateful.

The second problem is more interesting to say the least!

I bought a new battery for my car as the old one was knackered and wouldnt charge. I took the battery out and bought a new one and put it in.

After re-setting the key and everything the unlocks, locks and starts no problem. However, the rev counter doesnt seem to work any more, the windows will only open and close with the drivers door shut, the fuel gauge and temp gauge will also only work with the drivers door shut, and the computer under the rev counter and speedo will also only work with the door shut!

With the door shut they all spring into life, but something isnt right and I suspect something might need resetting?

If anyone has any ideas ii would be helpful. I'm planning on doing these things in the morning as its my only day off work for a while. In particular the draining and refilling of the coolant.

With regard to the other issue, this is a really interesting one. I am assuming that none of these faults were present in the car before the change of battery?

I cant find this rave thing, is it an easy job to drain the coolant?

I've just gone out to the car and started it. When I turned the lights on, both the footwell lights were flashing on and of, along with the air con panel flashing on and off, and also the temp and fuel gauges working intermitently.

I then turned the lights off main beam and onto just side lights and the everything worked as it should. Then turned the engine off and re started it and all the above was happening again.

All I did was disconnet the battery and put a new one in. I had to the reset the key fob via the door lock but that was no problem. I took one or two of the fuses out of the box under the bonnet to check them as they looked a bit dirty. But this was while the battery was out.

Any ideas anyone?!

Bad earth connection somewhere? Battery terminals clean and tight??

I know when an RAC guy disconected my battery at one point he cycled the windows all up/down to supposedly reset them, although it's possible the battery not taking a charge was simply a symptom of some other electrical problem, maybe an earth, or alternator/voltage regulator fault.
