HI, I've got a 2007 FL 2 HSE which has just developed a problem and would like to know if anybody else has had it and if its got a known fix.
The Battery warning light is coming on and staying on. I have tested the voltage at the battery and with the engine running it is reaching approx 14v, so the alternator is good. I replaced the battery thinking that was the problem, even though I had no problem starting. It is still the same. Also I have noticed when the warning light is on ( as sometimes it doesn't come on, but at present it seems to be on perminant ) the heated seats don't work also the front screen heater/demister is not working. On the occasions the light has gone out then these work fine. Also when hot and the light is on the engine on idle is sometimes "hunting". I have bought a Workshop service and repair disk from ebay, but its not as good as the old Rave disc you got for the FL 1. It suggests it could be a cableing problem.
Trouble is to get at any of the cables it looks like a major strip down!!

Anybody got any ideas before I have to take it to the dealer and get charged hundreds and hundreds of pounds, I am also supposed to be going caravaning in two weeks, don't know if I sould use it as it does seem to drive OK just worried I might be doing some harm to it.

Any ideas at all would be grately received.

You need to check what its charging at when the warning light is on. If the warning light isnt on when you checked , then your testing a working car.

Is the car stop/start? If so make sure you have an AGM battery fitted as replacement and that it is the correct rating.

Also i believe the battery warning light is connected to the instrument pack on a lin bus wire. Not 100% though

Hi Vissie,

Not sure if light was on when I checked the voltage I'm pretty sure it was though, but I will recheck. No its not a start stop one, and i do think you are correct with the lin bus wire.

Cheers

HI,

Just done some more voltage checks at the battery. Used the car today as I had ordered new tyres and had to get them fitted, the car worked fine just battery warning light on and therefore no heated seats or heated front screan working, but engine not hunting at tickover ( so thats an improvement). So when I got home I left it for an hour and half for the battery to settle down and took the folowing voltage checks at the battery terminals.

Car turned off, but interior lights on = 12.8v
Engine on at tickover and battery warning light on = 13.7v
Engine on at tickover and battery warning light on, with the following
electrics turned on (to see what happens):
main beam
front and rear fog lights
interior lights
fan full blast
rear heated screen
with all the above turned on and on tickover still getting = 13.4v at battery.

So I would think the alternator is OK.

Checked the voltage of the old battery and that is 12.2v
Could it be too much voltage now at the battery as its a bosch one from halfords and not a Landy one???

putting the old battery on charge and I will see what happens when I try the old one again

Any thoughts anybody

Cheers

Hi Rhodie,

Thanks for that I'll have a go at that hopefully tomorrow, but its quite a job on the freelander 2 to get to the alternator connectors, quite a bit of stripping down, I'll let you know if it works.

Thanks

Did you ever fix the problem with the battery light being on but still charging? I have same problem car seems to run fine, but no heated seats or front screen?
