Haven't tried cruise control yet but I'll check this afternoon! A friend of mine that works at JLR reckons BCM's can be reprogrammed....

They can be reprogrammed (ie software updated) but the security data can’t be changed to my knowledge

Doing a google search then second hand BCMs are junk

Good luck whichever route you go down

I don't know how much garages charge to reprogram the computer units. If it is not much then could be worth doing in case they have become corrupted. Certainly there should be no need to "upgrade" the software unless some parts have been introduced to the car that require an upgrade.

I think it more likely that an actual sensor/switch/other hardware is faulty and introducing 'noise' to the network that the BCM is interpreting as signals to turn the lights/wiper on. In the same way that that wiper switch was creating noise that turned the indicators on.

Maybe you could just remove the wiper switch and see if that fixes the problems - obviously you won't be able to drive the car if its raining, but would isolate that as the component causing the issue. I presume the car would still function with the switch removed! Bit more difficult to remove the wiper switch and use the car. Unless of course the issues occur if the car is just standing still idling.

Being a 2007, there would be lots of software updates that should have been implemented, well after the build date. Many such updates are missed, if the vehicle doesn't go back to LR after it's first couple of services. So it's always worthwhile making sure the ECUs are up to date, just like a PC or smartphone. ;)

When yer say the indicators and wipers switch themselves on... When?

Do they randomly come on
Does it only happen when doing something like turning
When they come on does playing with the steering wheel stalks turn them oft

Both indicators and wipers are physically controlled buy the stalks to turn them on/off. Can't remember the name of it but there's a switch thing behind the steering wheel the stalks go into. If this plays up or the stalks go funny yer get rsndom things like this happening.
