Ok, so I have a 1995 300tdi 110 with rear disc brakes. I was following busters"how to" - which is for a slightly older vehicle, and referencing the haynes manual for the rest of it.

anyway, I removed the wheel, and hub bolts, and the rubber dust cap - then I removed the circlip.

I then remembered busters how-to, and pulled out what I thought was a stub axle. It's actually about 3 ft long, and when I pulled it out the first inch or so, I heard CLUNK - I knew then that things had gone horribly wrong! I tried to shove it back in, but it wouldn't go, so I just removed it....

please please please... tell me what the fcuk I need to do now!

Thanks in advance

thats fine thats just the end of the shaft dropping out of the diff dont panic when you put it back just lift it slightly and twist till it meshes back in

:Dnever figured that on a landie it should be a third and 2 thirds shaft :D

ok - a little confused about popping/opening, but never mind!

I eventually got it finished v late last night - working on the ground outside with a lead lamp is a right PITA!

I couldn't get the union nut to undo (even after plus gas) to talke off the brake line, so I just removed the caliper and held it very carefully whilst I slid the hub & disc out. The calipers looks pretty shagged - it's got shed loads of rust coming off it, and the 2 bolts holding it on had actually rusted into the bottom of their holes. It took a 3/8" ratchet with a 1/2" socket, and 5ft of scaffold bar to undo the one of them!

anyway, bearing went on, no play in the wheel/hub no at all, so that's good news :) I'm pretty pleased with it - I've never replaced wheel bearings before.

@sypher - yup head in hands, wailing NOOOOOOO. ;)
