Forget everything....
The 'new' chassis, does it have a vin number? If yes then hope it's not stolen, if no has it a. Been ground off (your in the ****) or b. Never stamped as its was brand new

As for the points system as long as then non numbered parts are age correct there isn't anything they can do

That's exactly how I saw it too, but he does appear to have used some parts from newer vehicles, some removed from a scrapped/written off vehicle so it makes it a bit messy.

It's a new chassis but not correct age.

Puma chassis with a largely 1999 vehicle (no ID ) on a 1988 ID

I've done this many, many times with bikes but didn't think it was possible to change body type. mainly after reading all the LEZ threads.

It might not be possible to change body type,

My 94 defender 90 300tdi van back, on the log book, Landrover defender 90,
My 95 defender 90 300tdi van back, on the log book, Landrover defender 90,
My 89 90, with a 200tdi fitted, on the log book, Landrover 90 4c diesel

All say are body type light 4x4 utility I believe,
my 200 truck cab is definitely, I'm prity sure my other 2 where, putting windows in ect and changing mot class is a diffrent story

Thanks for everyone's comments and input, just so people are aware I will explain what I did,
I first bought a 1988 rotten 90 csw
I then purchased a genuine tdci chassis from a company on eBay that specialises in genuine chassis (year of manufacture unsure as it had no Id)
I then removed the mounts and fitted 300tdi mounts to suit what engine I planned to use, then sent it off to be galvanised.
Then I bought a rolled 1999 CAT B which I used both axles and rear tub from sold the other parts that could be salvaged the chassis then was cut up and scrapped as it was just as rotten as my 1988.
After buying various parts from shows and eBay and breakers I built up my 90 and put it back on the road using the 1988 registration.

So what counted for the points to use the 1988 reg ?

I used the original 1988 which I bought in the first place

I'm not sure how much it helps but it might be why the police are dragging their feet.

They might not be able to prove it's stolen in whole or in part but know it's not legitimately registered.

Either way I imagine you'll have to get it inspected and maybe live with a Q plate if and when the police decide they can't do you for anything directly

.

No id.... So was it ground off or was it an aftermarket new chassis ?

The chassis I was told was a genuine new chassis, where the number was supposed to be was just flat like it had never been stamped and there were no signs of any type of grinding, the seller is still on eBay now with these chassis advertised for 90 and 110 land rovers.
