Hi guys, I have a 1995 V8 disco, which has had a 300 TDi engine put into it, retaining the V8 box. The problem I have is with the clutch, it was slipping in 4th and 5th so I decided to slip a new one in. So far so good... Until I put the clutch in for the 1st time to try it, pedal hit the floor and stayed down, I pulled it up and tried again, pedal was pretty hard and this time it made an odd noise, hit the floor and stuck again. Took out the slave and put it back and bled the system. This time it moved a little bit then stopped.

The problem now is that I can select all gears with the clutch in or out and I have no drive! I am in dire straits here as it's left me bewildered!

Clutch kit was for a 300 tdi and went on the shaft perfectly, fork was a 300tdi one and fitted fine!!

It's like the clutch has stuck and will not release, although it makes a slightly different noise when I press the pedal down. Could I have damaged the release bearing with brute force when I pushed the pedal in?

Please please please help a noobie in distress!!!!

First off try driving in high and low range and with diff open and locked. It's possible that you've knocked the transfer hi/lo lever while carrying out the work.

What make of parts did you use? Did you fit a new bearing and an uprated clutch fork?

did the new parts look the same as the old one?

Are there any strange noises when the engine is running? I'm wondering if you've punched the centre out on the clutch.

Hi Ratty, thanks for the response. Britpart HD clutch kit, clutch. pressure plate, and bearing. Also put in a new clutch fork, everything looked the same and went back together fine. Will I be able to see if the centre has pushed out by sliding the box back a few inches?

Being it's a 300tdi lump with the original V8 box was there a spacer fitted when you took the old clutch out? If so was a spacer put back in?

Did you use an alignment tool to get the clutch in?
