Hello all, i am new to this forum and relativly new to the world of owning a p38 which is unfortunatly now causing me some problems. I have a 95 4.0 which i brought about six months ago, i had to have all the air suspention replaced when i brought it but apart from that it has been perfect, up till now!

About six weeks ago I went away for a week in it doing about 500 miles and it ran like a dream. When i got home the car was left for a month as i run a van for work and the car wasn't needed. When i got in it to go out it started but ran very rough alot of black smoke came out and the idle was all over the place, i thought it may just need a good run so took it out for a bit and the problem seemed to get better. The next day went to start it and it wouldn't, it turned over but didn't fire. I got a local mobile mechanic out who said he was a land rover specialist he changed some things did some checks then packed up his stuff and said the computer (ecu?) was
broke. Does this sound right anyone had anything similar? Many thanks in advance.

Thanks for the response guys he did have a computer which he plugged in but he said it was not good enough to tell him the problem? This seemed a bit odd but what can you say to people, would the best thing be to get it to a garage then? does anyone know of a good land rover place around the stourbridge/west midlands area. Thanks again

I think there are some P38 users in your area with Faultmate who may help. I'm sure someone will be along with advice.

how the fcuk can he diagnose the problem by saying the computer is broke and then tell you his kit isnt good enough to sort the problem, he has flanneled you, he is **** and i think you should phone him up and tell him, if you want give him my details and i'll pm my phone number and tell him he is ****!!!

now, i dont have the kit to sort rovers, but i wouldnt tell you something is broke if i couldnt confirm it was after using kit that doesnt work.

what a tit!!!

there are fellas on here who can help with the proper kit of find a rover specialist with T4 diagnostic kit or similar(do a search)

have it diagnosed properly before making a decision!!!
