hi, my friend has copme round and we are trying to remove the overdrive from my series 3, he is stuck and doesnt know how to remove it! i have been searching and cant really come up with any comprehensive, idiot proof guides, could someone help us please? i found a lot of sites showing how to put one on, including the official manual, however he says they arent helpin him, does anyone have any tips? thanks for reading!

most folks just undo the lumpy bit thas stuck on the back of the gearbox,it,s held on wiff nuts:doh:

You need to put the cog back in too, if you haven't got one, get it first!!

oops well i have no cog but im planning on a new gearbox anyhoo, didnt even think about that tbh, just need the thing off so i can sell it to get the money to fix the other bits she needs! he is still strugglin and i dont have a clue so im glad you guys are here!
he says the transfer gear is out an all the nuts are off but she wont pull off? is that any help??

i tried but no takers! its a shame she is a nice one as well really, dont know anything about mechanics so that has hindered what should have happened with her, its unfortunate to say the least...

take all the linkage out and the bracket that holds it too,-gear lever, that way it sells a lot better and for more ££

hi keef i think i know what your problem may be (if you havn't already got it off ) it sounds like the bloke who put it on does not know quite what hes doing, when fitting the the overdrive syncro you should replace the locktab washer which normaly keeps the original transfer cog in place via the castelated nut, the trouble is that the tabs are higher than the syncro and the spare tabs that don't line up with the slots in the castelated nut need to be cut off, some people don't know this and force the overdrive on over the proud ,spare tabs and bend them over , i would guess that it these tabs that are jamming and holding the overdrive on ,can only suggest gentle with a soft face mallet and a soft metal drift
