Help please with front wiper problem

Hi,
Can someone help please.
I'm new here and I posted this in the flippin introduce your self bitty.
So I have posted this request again here just to do things right.
After all not everyone looks in the newbie bit ; )
I have a Defender 90 TDI on a K plate.
Any way my front wipers were working intermitantly, for a short while now they have given up the ghost in the centre of my window screen and will not budge.
I've been told that they could have ceased and that I need to remove the arm from the motor and give it a shuckle?
Well I know where the motor is and I have loosened the top nut as suggested but how do I give the arm a shuckle?
as it still appears to be attached to the motor internally.
Do I have to undo the two small nuts on the back of the motor where the arm goes in, to release it?
I do not want to break anything or adjust something that might be a mare to put back togeather so a little advise from a superior being would be great.
Also the front washer jet stopped working so I swapped the rear one on to the front and the jet was working on the front.
Just checked it again and it appears to have stopped working with either relay.
I changed the 5Amp fuse as well just to be sure it was not broken but still no action.
Scotland is known for it's rain so until I get this fixed I'm on shanks's pony so to speak, where I live in the wilds it's a mile up a dirt track before I get to a main road.
So any help would be better than walking.
Look forward to hearing from you.

before you rip it all apart you might want to check the park switch on the wiper motor. If it fails it will prevent the wipers turning off or. as in your case, park the wipers where it feels like it. The park switch is on the side of the wiper motor and they cost around £10.

Hi Ratty,
Thank you for your reply to a novice newby.
Who loves her landy.
I know where the park switch is on the motor but being a bit of a female novice at this, how do I test the park switch?
If that's not a stupid question, if it is then forgive me for being stupid ; )

you can't really test the park switch but you can check for signs of corrosion on the electrical contacts. They are a really common failing point on defenders. Occasionally you can pick em up for less than £5 on ebay. If you can find one going cheap it might be worth chucking one on just for the hell of it.

If you decide to go down the route of taking all the wires off in one go, take a digital piccy of where they all go before you do it. You wouldn't be the first to rip them all off and forget where they went.;)

Hi Ratty,
Thanks for that.
I have had my fingers burned before with the wiring, I took the wires of the kenlowe relay for the cooling fan as it was acting up, and put 2 of the wires back incorrectly, melting one of them, I had to rewire the flippin thing that tought me a lesson.
Anyway I have had a look at the wiring there does not appear to be any corrosion.
I sprayed some GT85 about the pins but the wiper blades have not budged.
I think I'll just change the park switch and see what happens.
Also is the water jet driven through the park switch?
As I appear to have lost function on both front and rear now?

No.

the front jet is off the wiper switch, the rear is on a seperate switch. Might be worth checking your fuses. It is possible that the wiper stalk has a dodgy connection.

Hi Ratty,
Thank's that's a job for tomoz, if it's not peeing it down that is.
You have been so patient and helpful thank you.
I have another question.
Being that I am new can you tell me how come when you reply there are about 7 other quotes from other people or do they just add automatically when you post???
Not that I'm being nosey or anything just curious.

"What's put out for you will not go by you"

those quotes are my signature. If you click on 'usercp' near the top left hand corner of the page you can edit your sig from there. Some people have quotes, others have piccies etc

mine did the same things lol it dont now i have replaced the fuse boxes with blade ones, got sick of messing with the fuses every time it rained lol
