Hi All, can someone who owns a FL1 TD4 3 dr manual vehicle commercial or Adventure model tell me realistic fuel consumption in both 4wd and 2wd as I am wanting a commercial model and have seen lots of web reviews that claim poor figures some as low as 20mpg which I was alarmed about thinking the Td4 was good overall in the 40s but have no idea of improvements in 2wd. Thanks Alan.

Firstly if the VCU and transmission is in good working order then the mpg between 2 and 4 wheel drive modes is negligible. When the VCu is tight then that is a different question !
Mine Td4 ES 5 Door (160k on clock) does a good 32 - 35 mpg in every day short run use and 37 - 40 mpg on 60 - 70 mph motorway runs.
It is also an auto so a manual could do a bit better.

Hope this helps.

mine averages about 40mpg ..
unladen .. just 30lb dog in load-space
( i use the AC most days )
biggest drain on mpg .. on mine .. be the pct heater ..
'n my right foot .. at times :)

have never run it in 2wd mode ..
info on these pages suggest mpg aint much diff.
besides .. in 2wd mode .. more stress on the engine/ird mounts
.. as there's no prop-shafts connected to the rear ..

Thats great thanks for the replies my FL2 sport Auto sd engine was pants in the lower 30's and the main reason I have not been able to convince my wife she needs another land rover, unfortunately for me she bought a fiesta 1.25 that does a million miles per tank and my showing her figures below 40 isn't helping, cheers Al.

If you want good MPG figures, then avoid an auto and a heavy right foot. The TD4 FL1 manual will do 35 to 40 MPG. The auto TD4 will do 27 to 36 MPG, depending on use.

Making it a 2 WD saves nothing worthwhile and makes the handling worse, as well as causing increased wear on the engine mounts.

Mine does about 27ish round the doors (including sitting in traffic) and about 40 on a long run. and most of the time where they say its been converted to 2wd for economy are absolute bollocks, they have been done because of problems with teh vcu/ird/prop
