Help please Disco 2 wont unlock

Hello I have a 2001 disco and the key fob only works once in about 50 times! I have changed the battery and also taken out and cleaned the transponder in between the sunroofs and it is still the same. I can buy a second hand one but how do I programme it to the key?
Any help would be appreciated Thanks Ady
 
Have you had a really good look at the circuit board for micro cracks in the solder and/or rusty connections to the battery?
Do you have the Emergency Key Access code, it should have come with the vehicle, if not you can get it from Land Rover which would at least allow you to get into the vehicle and lock it again without the alarm going off. Although it is a pain to do.

yes I have checked the battery and the inside of the key fob and it all looks clean and no visible rust. The box in the roof looks perfect as well even on closer inspection- I cannot see any micro cracks. When I press the button on the key the LED lights up.
I can get into the car the key works after about 5 minutes of pressing the button and holding the key near the roof!!

You better buy a new one cos it's compulsory to be 100% ruled out otherwise you might spend a lot of time and money to trace an imaginary fault... it's plug and play no programming needed.... and btw, it's not "transponder" but RF receiver

Hello I have made progress, I Think!
Very weird but if I take the circuit board out of the key fob and press the button the car locks and unlocks perfectly and from distance. As soon as the circuit board is inside the key it stops working- when I press the button on the key the LED lights up as if it s working but nothing happens.
It looks like the plastic key blocks the signal however this really cant happen can it?
 
No, there is a dry joint or hairline crack in the fob's pcb which reacts to the pressure of the casing when it's eated back into position, the fact that the LED comes on doesnt mean that th transmission side works too, it just shows that the microswitch closed the power circuit
 
Hello! Me again with the problem still here............. I bought a new key and took the car and the new key to a garage to get programmed and they tested my old key and said it is working fine! I am not convinced and have taken to a second garage who has told me the same.
when the circuit board is out the plastic key holder it works, when it is back in the holder it works 1 in 50 times.
Both garages have told me the problem is the electrics on the car?? Any ideas what, where or how I fix this now
Any help appreciated thank you
 
o_OSo somebody who has the equipment to program a new key didnt do that cos he presumed that the old one works?:confused: ... IMO a bunch of schmucks ... there's no logic in this... as long as you can't confirm that the new fob doesnt work as it should the vehicle's electronics are not suspect to me

I told him that if I take the circuit board out the key fob it works so the car electrics must be ok, he told me my old key works so it must be the car!!!

@APD2098 ... where are you located? Maybe a forum member close by you with a Nanocom can help sync your key.

It’s weird the circuit works when outside of the fob. In the meantime and if you are good with electronics, get an old toothbrush and dip it lightly in some 90-99% isopropyl alcohol. In an open area, brush all areas of the the circuit board to clean it good, let it air dry and test it out again.

You should have just had the new key programmed to the car, so you had at least one thing you knew was new/working. That way, that part of the guessworks been eliminated. My guess is that your fob i putting pressure on the pcb, just as stated.
