Help on broken door latch

The R front door of my '96 HSE will only open from the inside. It looks like where the vertical rod attaches at the latch is broken. Do I need the latch mechanism or a new handle. And how do I remove these?

Hi there,colobound, I think your HSE is suffering from sticky door syndrome I had this problem on my disco 1 many years ago on the back door and front passenger, I also had the same problem on my disco 3 with the front passenger and now with the drivers door
(I can only lock it from inside) I replaced the latch mechanism and am about to do the disco 3 drivers door very soon as it is getting on my nerves, it is the only cure!:welcome:
