I guess there is more accountability these days. Especially after the miners strike, the police could get away with murder and had the backing of the Establishment.Morning Tomcat.
I spoke to a friend who was at that game. He had to watch the unfolding crisis from the opposite stand. My memory is a bit hazy now but I'm sure he told me there was another gate that would have relieved the pressure but the police inititally feared a pitch invasion or something and shut the gate so no-one could get out and that sealed their fate. South Yorkshire police covering their arses was nothing new though. They were infamous for it, although to be fair tensions were still pretty high even 10 years after the miners strike.
