Ello everyone this is my first post on behalf of my dad but he can't use a computer but straight to the point basically his 1999 1.8k series is showing ABS and TC light on which i did some research and can sometimes be caused by a faulty brake light switch which has been replaced and they are still there. So took it to are local mechanics which they was nice enough to put it on a code reader and its showing the fallowing

02,0 no battery supply voltage
04,4 front right sensor output low
06,4 front right sensor electrical fail
06,7 rear right sensor electrical fail
08,4 front right output intermittent
08,5 rear left sensor output intermittent

basically what they said was the the no batter supply voltage could be causing the problem but what i want to no if what should i check for the battery supply ? or what could this be? i have checked all the sensors and all the connections are clean and no broken/damage cables which i no this doesn't mean the sensors are ok but was worth trying. But i find it pretty strange that 3 sensors would have gone/going all at the same time any help would be spot on

cheers
saul :)

to be honest with reading the faults you have listed there as a sensor faulty i would expect the HDC light to be lit aswell

what happens when you turn the hdc on in 1st gear

HDC light just goes off when the engine is running at idle and stays off when driving not tried it in 1st gear but i will do that in a min or so to see what happens

Does the speedo work? Iirc it receives the speed information from the abs ecu.

yep speedo works perfectly mate

i appreciate the replys guys :) just thought i would ask for any advice buy buying new sensors as am sure alot of people on here have had similar problems at some point

right mate just tried the HDC in 1st gear and the light stays off i removed the rubber gaiter from the gear stick and looks like someone has cut the cables off and there isn't anything attached to the gear stick this must of been like this for the past 4years as thats how long its been in the family

You should also have a orange hdc light when u switch the ignition on if not then the bulb has blown or removed the wires under the gear lever boot need to be re attached or put up to a different switch

theres a green HDC when you switch the ignition on then goes off after about 5 seconds and ok will wire it up to a switch but would this make a difference to the lights that are on mate ?

when the ignition is switched on there should also be a orange light aswell next to it

you will find your fault is the 3 amigos

this sends you down a different route for diagnostics and from what faults you listed above i wouldnt be shocked to find 3 ABS sensors faulty maybe a possible rings

sensors are £14 each on ebay when i got some and ring were like £2 each once you have the HDC wired back up in the gear lever area for what little price the sensors are might be worth replacing them all

i went through months of searching all the threads to find my fault

02,0 no battery supply voltage not quite sure at the moment will look at diagrams tomorrow for you

04,4 front right sensor output low suspect faulty sensor/ring or both

06,4 front right sensor electrical fail suspect faulty sensor due to you lising as intermittent below

06,7 rear right sensor electrical fail suspect faulty wiring or sensor

08,4 front right output intermittent suspect faulty sensor

08,5 rear left sensor output intermittent Suspect faulty sensor/ring or both

the resistance should be between 950-1100 but this is not exact mine are all about 1120 which is higher than recommended but they all read that so im taking there is a bit of give in what the abs ecu finds faulty or not

when using a multimeter testing the same you would need to check the voltage and then as you turn a wheel would need 4 wheels in the air for this unless you only have 2 wheel drive version

once these checks are done if it was to pass them it doesn't mean its not faulty as intermittent sensor faults on mine was a bitch to find and it was on a new sensor i got

just remember new parts can be faulty otherwise there wouldn't be a warranty

looks like someone took the bulb out of the orange HDC light i have put this in and 3 lights are showing i have orderd 3 near sensors so hopefully once they are in it will all be good agen :D

bit more advice/help needed 3 new sensors turn'd up today i haven't fitted them in the hubs yet but i plug'd them in to and turn'd on the car and the orange hill decent light goes off how ever the TC light stays on with the ABS light i no the ABS will stay on till the car gets to 5mph just wonderd if they need to be fitted into the hubs to take the TC light out ? any help or advice would be spot on :)

cheers

once you have fitted the sensors it might be a case of deleting the codes when i fitted my new sensors i had to use my hawkeye to make the lights go out

Hi Wollee 18.

I also have a 1999 Freebee (L series) and have been through the same as you very recently. The ABS goes out once driven yes, the HDC light should go out if the sensors are ok fitted ok - but will flash up again if there's a too larger air gap or a damaged reluctor ring.

My TC light didn;t go out until all was fitted and running.. (I thing anyway,...??).
Get the faulty sensors swapped out (the hard bit is removing the old sensors) and fit the newbies.. Then seen where you end up. When you change the sensors - make sure the reluctor rings are fairly clean and not damaged - one of mine was missing a bar - (i.e. double wide space on the ring) - this I think was my fault when removing the old sensor -but could have been a stone. Eitherway the rings are not too tricky to replace and cost about £3 each on ebay!

Good luck!

Si.

i see mate well only replaced the front right and the orange Hill decent light went out and took the old gurl for a drive and now all the lights are going out wahoo :) but i have the rear sensors just in case the light come back but time will tell :) i appreciate your help tho mate
