If you could hear a ticking noise at the rear. This could be the fuel burning heather dosing pump. This should only activate when the outside temperature is lower than 5 °C.
The engine low pressure pump should be reasonably quiet. Like a humming noise, almost inaudible over the engine at idle.
Your fault does sound like a rail sensor connection fault to me. Does it have the overlay replaced harness?

Im not sure mate its my first freelander and only had it couple of weeks, was fine then just christmas day was low on power and been the same since, RAC came out boxing day, unplugger egr and maf and it was ok-ish for a bit but soon returned to struggling to get to high mph , i went out this morning and unplugged the plug on what i presume the fuel rail , sprayed with contact cleaner, started it drove it and still same, wont go over 30-40 mph
 
The pump inside the rear wheel arch is makin quite a loud noise, ive just done a video of it on my phone but wont let me upload it ! Buts quite a loud burbling noise
