Ive got a disco td5 just got it back on the road again after being made rudundant. I put £20 of diesel in it yesterday and a got 80 miles is this normal? Ive fitted a new fuel pressure regulator to the back of the cylinder head. Ive also cleaned the maf sensor. And removed egr. This seems to be using alot of diesel in my opinion has anyone got any ideas its got a manual gearbox fitted. I have checked the oil for diesel and and the oil doesnt smell of diesel and the oil level never rises. Dan

It was just driving around with my mate. then we stopped half hour drove further then would stop. speeds from 30 to 70 all the time not a motor way cruise. just nipping here and their. so that sound about right then or not? I worked it out to be 20mpg i put 4gallons in for £20. and got 80 miles. Dan

Not enough mileage to tell properly .. you need to measue an exact amount and see how far it goes, or take an average over a couple of tanks full really. A lot also depends on how you drive, where you drive and of you're towing etc.

Well id personally say town driving nipping from here and there if you get me. 20 = 80 miles. Wasnt thrasing it one or twice i went over 3000rpm rearly. an i wasnt towing. So if i put 40 in i should get 160 miles in the same driving conditions in theory. Basicly i just want to know if thats about average or have i got something wrong with it?

My manual TD5 does 500 miles, give or take, to a tank full. Thats with NO motorway driving at all. Around £ 80-85 to fill up.

I think youre definately using too much fuel there.

This may sound strange, but dont rule out a faulty fuel guage..!

My TD5 gave me all kinds of wierd readings. A brimmed full tank from Birmingham to London and I was on a quarter by the time I got there. Should be able to get there and back on half a tank!

I actually thought I was ****ing diesel over the road as I could almost watch the fuel guage dip!!!

It cost me a furtune to track it down. New sender/fuel pump, New instrument binacle fuel guage...

He's a 'free' check you can do...

Take the fuse box out from under the steering wheel and look at the back of it for signs of green copper oxide. The windscreens leak and drip onto the fuse box, this in turn causes havock with the instruments.

Sell it or change it over to LPG I'm getting about 300 miles to £35 worth of gas

do u do a lot of motorway driving? i average about 200 in my 96 V8i LPG but thats on rural welsh roads and i must admit i do get a little bit of heavy right foot syndrome occasionally.

its impossible to tell if you just putting 20 quid in, Try brimming it, about 80 quid and running it at least to half full and brimming it again

20 not that bad is your messing about in town, if im careful how i drive mine im getting about 28 mpg, doesn't take much to get it down to 18 though

Thats about what i get doing short trips to and from work in my auto(about 6 miles each way, up and down hills). On the motorway i can get 500 miles to a tank
