Hey, folks, having broke the defender 5 months ago I've now broken the P38. Any one got any ideas wot might be wrong? It's a 1999 DHSE (posh, me) and I put some old diesel in it which had water in it. We drained all the water out from the filter and sort of drained the tank till no more 'steam' was coming out the exhaust or water out the filter, but now the damn thing refuses to rev over 3500. Starts a treat, sits for hours on idle and will happlily rev upto 3500, but refuses flatly to put itself out any more. We thought we'd done a pump in, but apparently if it will run that isn't the problem. well, if any one has any ideas, please let me know, we are just about at the stage where voodoo dolls and magic potions are in order. I got to fix it cos the old man isn't too impressed, it's his dream car. Help, please>

Safe mode?!!!!! Argh! Okay, my favourite bloke down the breakers has said they can put it on their diagnostics thingy for me. Safe mode sounds like something a quick computer twiddle would fix, yeah? (Hopeful pleading, puppydog eyes) I'll drop out the oil first, it was a bit over due for a service when I broke it. Oh, I really don't deserve our rovers, I should be driving one of those dodgy old shoguns, with my service schedule that really is all I deserve. I'll let you know how it goes with the diagnostic thing next week, cross your fingers for me. ;-)

Trust me, Irishrover, if it'll keep my landys on the road I'll don a mini and look under ANYONES bonnet!! ;)

Poor old girl ! (Rangey, not you Suse) . Did you cange the fuel filter ? I would check all your turbo hoses for splits and make sure everything is free to breathe. Something that always gets overlooked at service time is the intercooler. Whip it out and give it a good sloosh with some parafin - you will be surprised how much sludge you get out of it and the difference it makes when clean.
