Hi everyone please help me, my s reg xedi has to be topped up with water every day after my 15 mile trip to work and back, i have no sign of water in the oil, thats fine. There is no sign of water leaking anywhere around the engine, hoses or on the floor, the head gasket has been replaced recently, I fitted a new water filler cap today hoping that would solve the problem but it hasn,t. The freelander is taking about 2 pints every day to top up. Please please please help....aaaaargh, a very frustrated jason.

Hi there i have to put roughly about 1 pint in on average every day, i cannot see any water line in the header tank as every morning i check, theres no water in there and as soon as i put water in it gurgles and takes half a pint until the water reaches the min line. jason.

Assumming the head gasket is sound then there are two obvious places to look on this engine. First the coolant pump, which is at the back of the power steering pump, as these are know to develop a leak when worn. Second, the heater matrix. Look for wet carpets under the central consol and steamed up back windows. Obviously check the radiator matrix, looking for signs of crystalised antifreeze. That raises a point in itself. Where are you? If you're in the UK be mindful that you are diluting your antifreeze, especially with the current weather.

Good luck,

Dave
