Hello, Just wondered if anyone could help. I took my FReelander Td4 for an mot today (first time) and it failed because the abs light didnt illuminate. THing is i'm not sure if ABS is fitted. It is a 3 dr Td4 , S model, first registered in November 2000. I looked on the LR website to view the owners manual because unfortunately I dont have my own hard copy. On page 81 under Anti lock Braking System, it says the words (if fitted). Now i also looked on the clocks where , if fitted , the warning light should be and there doesnt seem to be anything there, just seems to be blocked off.
Any advice, how do i know/prove to the mot man it hasnt got abs.
any advice appreciated
Shotto

ABS was not standard on early freelanders. It was standard on the high spec models but only optional on the lower spec models.
Did the first owner opt for it? They may have.
If your model has HDC then it will have ABS.
Why don't you look for ABS sensors, each wheel will have one. The front wheel sensors are mounted on the front of the hubs and the rear wheel sensors are mounted on the rear of the hubs.

Lift the bonnet and check. The ABS control unit is over the wheel arch on the front off-side. It looks like an aluminium block with six pipe couplings going into it. Much easier than looking for sensors at the back of the wheels.

The low spec ones don't have it, go with Vics check for the aluminium block, non-abs type (like mine :D) just have a 4way brass connector from the brake servo, less can go wrong that way ;)

Thankyou, it does have it. but no light, i can see a bill approaching! thanks for all the info.
