Help! cooling fans stopped working.

Hi all,

Can anyone help me with what I feel may be a self inflicted problem:scratching_chin:.

I have just serviced my 1999 Freelander 1. I have drained and flushe the coolant and refilled working to the Haynes manual. Started the engine and ran to get up to temperature but instead of the gauge settling in its usual position, the temprature gauge kept going until it was over halfway up the dial. The coolant level was holding steady and was circulating ok but I noticed the fans were not kicking in.

I thought I may have air locked the system so re-bled it taking even more care just to be certain. Started it up, same problems. Everything was running ok prior to me bleeding the coolant.

Anybody give me any ideas as to what I have done, I feel a bit of a tit ending up with this result

Check you haven't knocked the wiring off to the fan.

you haven't bled all the air from the system, two bleed screws, onne on tube below air filter, one on return heater hose.

I think that you must be right, I was unaware of the bleed screw below the air filter. Can I bleed it using both of these screws without draining the system again?

I did the same procedure yesterday. It works best if you get someone else to very steadily and slowly pour a constant flow of coolant into the tank while you wait for bubble free coolant to start coming out of the lower bleeder. As soon as you do, get that sucker back in there and watch the bleeder on the heater hose. If you do it carefully there will be very little air to burp out of the system when you're done .

Don't know what you're using to drain stuff but I got one of these, useful as feck.

Simple one, is fuse number eight in the engine bay fuse box blown? It's a 30 amp job. Also have you managed to knock the connector off the coolant temp sensor?

to check fans try switching on your A/C, the fans usually come straight on when the AC is engaged. The temperature needle is about normal if it is sitting at the 9'oclock position :O)
