help brake pedal goes to the floor

The landy has been sitting for a while when I started today to get the mot the brake pedal travels straight to the floor and comes back up. It does this with the engine off and on. Noticed this as well.. don't seem to be loosing any brake fluid but wondering if it is some sort of vacuum issue..

this part seems to have some sort of vacuum pipe running to the brake servo...

Do the brakes actually work? I would have thought that if the vacuum pump wasn't working the pedal would be really hard to press. I could be wrong but have a look at your master cylinder instead.

Foot brake does not work at all

id say check fluid again ,check all pipes for damage or leaks .

Usual suspects are. Old fluid or the lack of it and air in the system if u don't have any leaking fluid.

Have just double checked and there is no fluid as far as I can see

If that failed would it go hard or the pedal would go to the floor and not come back up by itself.

Would old fluid cause that? It does look a little thick.
Would there be air in the system if there Is still fluid in the resvevior so little confused how it would get in

1. Dark coloured brake fluid is a sign its old so replace it.
2. Brake fluid is "hygroscopic," which means it tends to absorb moisture over time which doesn't compress.
3. Only you can tell if there is air in the braking system.

But don't be confused, air in the system can be due to loose pipe unions or faulty components even incorrect bleeding of the system previously following a fluid or component change.

For anybody interested it was the master cylinder that failed. Thanks for all your help guys. Managed to pick one up for £10
