Help! Black smoke and power loss.

Hi would really really appreciate some advice guys, I have a Range Rover SE TD6 2004. A few weeks ago I had a mechanical breakdown and had to have the rear fuel pump replaced. Now I have noticed that at about 50mph the car seems to hold back and feels like it won't kick into the next gear (it's automatic) and it let's out a big puff of black smoke from the rear. Once the smoke releases it kicks in then and takes off no problem then drives perfect time again. There is a gungey oil leak under the bonnet that I'm not sure if it may be related - please help! It's just cost a bomb to sort the pump don't want to spend another fortune :-( Many thanks guys x

Is the gungy oil leak near the turbo?

Sorry sound really thick here but the gungey leak is all around the dip stick and the surrounding pipes and components - not sure where the turbo is. Looks like it could be a split in a breather pipe but I can't identify it. Even when reving no visible smoke or squirting it seems that it only happens at high speed as I clean the pipes and then after a good run its covered again.

Might be worth having a look at the crank case breather I seam to remember these can bugger up and cause a few probs.

I'm with Brian on this....take a look at the crank breather and then fit the newer better cyclone version instead of the filter fluff version......I think 2.0_Hippo fitted one to his....

Looking at the photos it has spat oil all over the ABS ECU etc....so time to get cleaning.

Also check your Turbo hoses are not split. The Turbo is a large unit built into the exhaust manifold.

I'm with Ant and Brian on this. apparently the crank case breather is one of the growing list of things that needs changing at regular intervals. Good news is it's not an expensive part
