Hi all.

I've got a 2002 4.4 vogue RR ...its great....But.

Last week on holiday in cornwall the battery went flat in the morning ...i assumed it was cus i had left doors open and boot ect to laod for the day out (we were camping) so didnt worry too much and suer enough it generally started in the morning if i didn't wess with it.

here my prob been back now for a few days and OK only doen 130miles but just picked my son up from scouts and whilst waiting watched telly for 6mins and bingo flat .
Just looked at the battery and its Black and manual says needs charge..

Q1- Can i attache normal battery charger to the jump start terminals and charge.
Q2 -is it likely to be the monstrously expensive Alternator. and how do i find out without paying loads for a main dealer to just fit one anyway.
Q3- could it be something else draing the battery ??? ie staying on ??

oh thanks for any advice the forume beeg great help B$ :D

Being more acquainted with the P38 models, which have in the past been known to have similar problems, I can firstly sympathise and secondly offer general advice.

Personally I would avoid anything other than a trickle charger being connected while the battery is still in the car (certainly not a booster unless you want to blow sensitive electronics!!!)

You can check the alternator output quite simply by putting a voltmeter across the battery terminals while the engine is running. With everything switched off you should get a reading of about 14V.

A quick way of seeing if something is staying on would be to disconnect the earth terminal of the battery and listen for clicks to tell you if a relay is still live although its not a failsafe method as some circuits are live all the time.

Have you considered that it might just be your battery at the end of its serviceable life? 6 years isn't bad.

if you find it's not
stereo
alternator
starter
other obvious item
try front screen fuses-I've found several p38's with similar problem as my thread-as yet to find solution

Cheers all

Put tester on and got 14.4 V.

Had battery tested and it was shot.......got a new one friday for £63 cheap as chips (was trade mind).

thanks all..
