A loud bang then no rear suspension - luckily it happened only a mile and a half from home. I can hear the compressor running on tick over, however when any of the doors are opened the compressor stops and starts up again whe the door is closed. Has anybody got any ideas what has failed.

Sounds like a blown Airbag. someone else on here has the same problem

Wunt have thought so Don't know much about RR is it possible it self levelled?? or a valve supplying both bags may have blown. fire it up and squirt soapy water over the pipework and bags. if it's leaking you'll see the bubbles

The reason why both sides are down is because the blown air spring has taken out the height sensor aswell, a failed height sensor will make both sides drop.

Great help and advice on this topic in the forum. Bought both bags from paddock £172 incl vat and delivery (N.Ireland). Priced my local LR dealer they wanted £190 + vat per bag and told me that it was a very awkward job - I had the both off in 20 mins - the hardest part was jacking the car and taking off the wheels. Massive savings or what!!!!

Thanks to all.

I've got the same problem, driver side going down (but not always!). Sourced a pair of bags from Island 4x4 for £160 with free delivery. Bags are badged Dunlop, Trelleborg PNEURIDE which seem to come from a very big Swedish manufacturer.
Only difference I can see from originals is the tubing is connected by pushing the bare tube into a sprung collet connector rather than a screw-in with ferrule. I've used this type of connector at work for high-pressure gases so I know it should be secure and leak proof.
Let you know how they go when I fit them.
