Hope you guys or gals can help
I have a N reg p38 DSE 2.5 auto.

After going out in the car the gear change was perfect but when I stopped and selected the low range ratio the beeper sounded and low box side flashed, a light on the dash with two gears and an x flashed and went off once the beeping stopped. The low range continued to flash and L and N was displayed on the dash. I selected drive and nothing, no forward or reverse, message (Select Neutral ) I did this waited still nothing, I put it back to high neutral and again got the bells and lights, Low range flashing stopped but stayed lit up and the high ratio flashed, again waited and nothing tried drive one the bells etc stopped again message Select neutral came on the display. I pushed the selector up to park and heard a slight crunch, never did it before, turned the car off and started it again, as soon as it starts the high range flashed but no warnings still no drive, put it in to low again Low came up L N was displayed, managed to select drive and off we went, stopped tried for high as before nothing except a repeat of before selected low, got drive but shows select neutral.

Recap: start, put in to drive H, message select Neutral, no gears, when put to park a slight crunch

select newtral, then low, get bells for a little bit then stops, select D moves forward and reverse but only in low ratio still get select neutral

help please I found the selector motor on back of box when trying to put in high park you can feel a little vibration if this helps

Certainly sounds like the transfer motor or the motor switch pack is duff....

Be warned this can fry the transfer box ECU.

Get under the passenger seat and find the transfer case ECU, give it a smell....if it smells burnt or like it has been getting hot, time to change...
